No family is perfect. Everyone can enhance their skills when it comes to raising children. Many of the approaches and programs we are familiar with work on dividing the families up by what’s wrong with them. Whether that be mental health, substance abuse, or lack of resources. This approach allows for us to focus on bringing our families together and building protective factors. The program can benefit any family.
The traditional approach to parenting is at times we recognize the problems versus the progress. Looking at all the negatives and things that can go wrong. But this framework focuses on the strengths and provides opportunities to prevent and buffer risky situations for better outcomes.
For this framework, strengthening families is implemented through a series of “small but significant changes” to daily practice rather than a large-scale program modification.
How do we know this works? Well, this program is researched-informed. I can be considered a part of that research. Once I learned this module I better understood how to parent and what my job what raising a small human. I never had patience and working on this framework at home with my little ones makes parenting so much easier and enjoyable.
